Have some oil with your wheat?

We crossed the border at Sweetgrass, MT... leading into the town of Coutts, Alberta on the other side of the border.  No problems, except we threw out our apples when we didn't need to. I guess it depends on what border crossing you go through.  We have found that it's easier to get out of the country than to get in.
I thought there were a lot of wheat fields in Montana.   Alberta, Canada has wheat fields in every direction with gigantic grain silos everywhere. Alberta is the second largest producer of wheat in all of Canada. Within many of those wheat fields, oil wells line the horizon. Alberta has three large oil fields that make it the largest producer
 of oil in Canada.

Something to look at as those hundreds of oil cars go by.  I enjoy looking at them and try to figure out the meaning behind their graffiti.
Looked like snow; but it was alkaline on the ground. This part of Alberta did not get the ground cultivated by the glaciers. They call it old soil and it has a higher level of acid. Irrigation can also cause an alkaline soil to be left behind by the accumulation of salt through the movement and evaporation of water. This is very concerning to crop growers because having fields like this will
lower their yields.
We made it through the city of Calgary. Named after Fort Calgary and known for the Calgary Stampede. It's the largest city in Alberta and the fourth in all of Canada. On the horizon are the Canadian Rockies we will be climbing tomorrow.  We're heading to Banff National Park and Lake Louise.  The further north, the less chance
 of WiFi for awhile.

The only wildlife outside our window tonight.

  1. I can skip the pictures of snow and ice. I would have been on the RV floor in fetal position. Loved all the rest of it though. You are moving along pretty fast. Some day I would like to make it to Calgary. Drive safe.
