Leaving
our beautiful, peaceful campsite was a hard move to make this morning…especially
when you’re heading towards a place called “Destruction Bay. Originally this place, which is a small town,
was a construction camp for the building of the Alaskan Highway. The name was
given to the town for a severe windstorm that occurred in the 1940’s. Actually, it’s a beautiful place because it’s
not far from Kluane Lake, where we stayed last night. Our hesitation in heading that direction is the
condition of the highway. There are so
many dips in the road that it causes you to go up and down and it also makes
you rock sideways too. In a motor home
it gets a little scary at times.
Hard to show the true rippling effect in the road. The telephone poles should be a clue that somethings not right with this road!
. However, the good news is that… after all
that rocking…we crossed the border into “Alaska!”
No border problem either.
We’re
staying at the small town called “Tok.” We need to stay in one place for a few days
to catch up on laundry, relaxing and checking out the local attractions. We
will always remember this place because 5 years ago we received
a phone call from our son Brian that his wife Katie was pregnant. Bill got the phone call and I was in
the grocery store. He told Brian to call
back in 10 minutes because he thought I might make a scene in the grocery store...and I did….but outside the store.
