We have never seen South Dakota so green. With all the rain that fell today, the landscape will be getting a lot greener!
We didn't have "big" outdoor plans,
so no "big" disappointments.
Just heading to Wall, SD; better known as "Wall Drug." We have been stopping and camping here since before our kids were born. Lots of memories here over the years, from....having to huddle in the cinder block bathroom while camping because 13 tornadoes were sited in the area... to our young kids waiting for the train to go by our campground because they knew all the pennies we put on the tracks would be flattened. (Entertainment was simple back then:-)

One of the thousands of Wall Drug signs in the United States. There are signs even outside the US. One in Shanghai, 9066 miles away! |

Seeing this infamous 50-ton, 80-foot-long, green dinosaur (on a rainy day) reminds you to exit to Wall Drug, SD. The two-toned dino was built in the late 60's for the same reason. Interstate 90 was built and bypassed the small town, which worried local businesses. Their worries disappeared quickly when this big, green dinosaur appeared and lured in tourists once again...like us. |
If you do take exit 110, off of I90, to go to "Wall" and you're in the time period of Memorial Day to Labor Day...you will be actually "Wall" to "Wall" in people! So being lured into "Wall" on a cold, rainy day before Memorial Day turned out to be a good thing. BTW...the cocktails and burgers were a good thing too. FYI...the windmill wheel on the ceiling is a fan.
