The Oregon Trail (Day 7)

Interstate 84 follows the Oregon Trail which we followed all day today.  When you see this terrain, you can't help but wonder how the early settlers ever made their way to the West.  Even today...we passed people that were walking or biking out in the middle of nowhere.  I wanted to stop and ask them...where in the @#&* are you going?  The nearest town is 20 miles and there is no water out here!  Makes you wonder.

 A visitor center had a great display of the story behind the Oregon Trail, the early settlers and Indians.
Can't imagine living in this...it's smaller than our motor home with a few less conveniences.  I guess most of them didn't ride in it....they WALKED!  Bill had a relative that went out to California this way during the gold rush of 1849.  He made it all the way out there, enduring all those hardship, only to die less than a year of arrival.  A letter was written to his family in Wisconsin telling of his journey;
but how he died is unknown.
We could look down and see where the Oregon Trail went across the valley. Amazing American history!
